Life was tough before Blessings Kalingonda, who works at the parking department at Limbuli Tea Estate Company, owned by Eastern Produce Malawi (EPM) Limited in Mulanje district, joined Thandala Village Savings and Loans (VSL) group in 2020. He had no dream of building a house despite working at the company.

However, Kalingonda says his life has changed significantly. Kalingonda who is Thandala VSL Secretary said with expertise from Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) through Kuwala (Shine) project, he managed to buy two bicycles, started piggery (currently has three pigs) and he is currently building a house with proceeds from the VSL.

“I bought two bicycles. I spent K35, 000 and K75, 000 for the first and second bicycles respectively and so far I have spent close to K1 million on my house project,” said Kalingonda a father of two children. His dream he says is to be a successful farm produce businessperson.
